An appeal to support the Abuja 2014 bid

Last call ! Commonwealth games 2014, destination....

Abuja, Nigeria, Africa.

On the 9th of  November 2007, the executive committee of the commonwealth games foundation will meet to decide who gets to host the 2014 commonwealth games currently the two cities bidding are

Glasgow in the UK and Abuja in Nigeria.

Both cities are remarkable in their own right and I’m sure are capable of hosting this world class event to the highest of standards. But this campaign today is for  Abuja, Nigeria and the whole of Africa.

This is the vision taken from the constitution of the commonwealth games Federation

To promote a unique, friendly, world class Commonwealth Games and to develop sport for the benefit of the people, the nations and the territories of the Commonwealth, and thereby strengthen the commonwealth.

Africa, with  many countries in the commonwealth has contributed immensely to all kinds of sports throughout the commonwealth but since its inception (the games) in Canada1930, The continent has never hosted a single game. 

Nigeria in 2003 hosted the all Africa games successfully in Abuja, with 7 000 athletes from Africa participating it is Africa’s largest sporting event. Thanks to Oil revenue and Chinese business savvy, top class facilities were constructed for this event

For the commonwealth games we can do the same, what ever infrastructure/security that is needed just let us know …2014, we can do it.

Democracy, Poverty,Niger delta crises, resource control, religious /ethnic divide, corruption,  19 scams, don’t worry!  (all countries have problems) We are working to resolve all that .

In 2014, Nigeria will be 100 years old, that farcical experimentation in amalgamation will still be surging ahead, against all odds, in true African style.

Africa needs help, but not the image of drooling African diseased infested child begging for a savior kind of help we are constantly bombarded with on the TV screens.

Africa needs to regain its pride, Africa needs to regain hope, Abuja, just needs a chance!

Just like the football world cup taking place for the first time on the African continent in South Africa in 2010.

We need young African athletes aspiring to represent their respective countries in the commonwealth in 2014.

We need the creation of jobs, housing, infrastructure and some good news for a change.

We need other member states of the commonwealth to show their confidence and support for Africa by voting Abuja as the host city for 2014.

What you can do ?  Dont just sit back , join our campaign.

Calling on all friends of Abuja, Friends of Nigeria, friends of Africa friends of the common wealth and friends in general.
